Johann (11th Grade) – Founder, Executive Director, Board member, Director of Finance – Cherokee Nation
I love Legos. I always have. I love what LEGO lets me do. When I am building a set, it forces me to be disciplined to follow an incredibly prescribed step-by-step sequence of actions which leads me to an incredible creation. Other times, when I free build, I am transported to a world I am imagining and creating. Oftentimes, when I have assignments to create something, I do that in LEGOs. For example, last year, I had an English assignment to recreate a scene from the book “Othello” and I chose my medium to be LEGOs.
I love the process of building something from the ground up. Whether it’s a LEGO set, a Minecraft world, or a programmable robot, I want to try my hand at it. When I’m not building things, I can usually be found hanging out with my family and friends. Some of my favorite activities include robotics, camping, hiking, and eating sushi.
Hannah (12th Grade) – Co-founder, Board member, Director of Education
I am passionate about teaching and sharing my knowledge with others. Once I began tutoring within my school, I realized that I wanted to share my teaching skills with indigenous communities. Fortunately, I became involved with two other passionate students who shared a similar dream. Together, we founded Bricks for All and have used LEGOs to introduce STEM concepts to indigenous students.
Building with LEGOs and other materials (or taking a device apart) is always an exciting process for me, and I love figuring out how something works or improving its design. I love all things STEM, especially physics, biology, and engineering. In my free time, I also enjoy reading and cooking
Nathan (12th Grade) – Co-founder, Board member, Director of Outreach
I love all parts of STEM. I have been fortunate to be exposed to science and technology from an early age. I enjoy tutoring others and longed for an opportunity to share my love of STEM with others who do not have the same educational opportunities that I have had.
I love delving into a difficult problems and see LEGOs as tools that allow me to develop and solve problems. Bricks for All has been an amazing opportunity for me to extend my passions in science and math and share them with others through the medium of LEGOs.
